Iran rejects DNI's remarks

Politics - Iran has strongly rejected claims by US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper that Tehran is planning attacks in the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Clapper's remarks about the Islamic Republic were “baseless.”

Mehmanparast added that the remarks were the result of an “outdated Cold War-era mindset.”

During a meeting of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee on January 31, Clapper said that Iran is “now more willing to conduct an attack in the United States.”

In October 2011, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir, with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel. However, many commentators dismissed the accusation.

The United States and Israel have devised numerous anti-Iran plots over the years, including targeted assassinations of Iranian scientists.
