Iran's president calls for regional unity against foreign interference

Politics - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has urged regional nations to expand ties and stand united to counter any foreign interference in their domestic affairs.

“The problems and crises of our region have external causes and have been imposed on the regional nations and states from outside our borders,” Ahmadinejad told reporters in Tehran, after returning from his two-day trip to Pakistan.

Pointing to the tripartite summit of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan, which wrapped up in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday, he added that all three countries had a nearly uniform view about regional concerns.

The Iranian chief executive went on to say that regional countries should put aside their suspicions and cynicism towards each other in order to achieve progress and development.

Ahmadinejad arrived in Pakistan on Thursday to attend the summit on regional cooperation and developments.

The two previous trilateral meetings were held in the Iranian capital, Tehran.
