According to khabaronline’s political correspondent, at the helm of a high-ranking delegation, Salehi visited Kuwait on Sunday and submitted the invitation letter of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the emir for participation at the 16th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement slated for August-September in Tehran.
The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is an organization of states considering themselves not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
It was founded in 1961 and has 118 members. The organization which includes nearly two-thirds of UN member states aims to protect the interests of developing countries within the context of international diplomatic relations.
For his part, Kuwaiti Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah appreciated the invitation and hoped to take part in the summit attended by heads of government of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Salehi referred to the bilateral relation between the two countries stressing on the basic view of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the establishment of peace, stability and friendship in the significant region of the Persian Gulf.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran gives so much importance to ties with neighboring countries and calls for elimination of problems and misunderstandings through dialogue between countries of the Persian Gulf region," the top Iranian diplomat said.
Salehi regarded the issues which cause dispute among the countries in the region, including Shiite-Sunni conflict as fabricated by those foreigners who try to fish in troubled waters.
"Despite religious differences, Muslim people have lived brotherly together for several centuries and what in terms of religious differences we are witnessing now is the result of measures taken by malicious forces, countries outside the region," he said.
"Political and religious rationality indicates that all countries of the Persian Gulf cooperate with each other and establish a unity," Iran's Foreign Minister added.
Referring to a number of problems in the region, Salehi suggested that meeting the legitimate demands of people will resolve these problems.
Following the session, Iran's Foreign Minister maintained that implementation of some plans dictated by foreign forces which are at odds with independency and system of the countries in the region will make their problems more complicated as finding appropriate resolutions for them will be difficult.
Expressing his pleasure, Kuwaiti Emir hoped that he will attend the16th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement. He regarded the Islamic Republic of Iran as a suitable host for the event.
He sent the greetings of the Kuwaiti people and government to the Islamic Republic of Iran's officials and hoped for further boost of ties and cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
In July 2008, a Kuwaiti lawmaker Jassem Al-Kharafi publicly accused the West of provoking Iran on the nuclear issue. In his interview with state-owned Kuwait TV, Al-Kharafi said, "What is happening is that there are provocative Western statements, and Iran responds in the same way.”
“I believe that a matter this sensitive needs dialogue not escalation, and it shouldn't be dealt with as if Iran were one of America's states,” the Kuwaiti lawmaker added.
The latest round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the six world powers was held in Istanbul last month after a 15-month hiatus and was described by both parties as “constructive”.
Iranian envoys held talks with experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on May 14-15 in Vienna and will negotiate with the representatives of 5+1 group including the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany in Baghdad.
