Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili, who is in Lebanon on an official visit, underlined the necessity for continued consultations between Tehran and Beirut.

Speaking to reporter upon his arrival, Jalili said that his visit is aimed at consulting with Lebanese officials given the sensitive developments and conditions in the region.

"The good relations between Iran and Lebanon require a growth in the two countries' consultations to make an increasing use of the capacity which has been created by the Islamic Awakening (movement in the region)," the Iranian security official stated.

Jalili, heading a high-ranking Iranian delegation, arrived in Beirut earlier this morning to meet with high-ranking Lebanese officials.

He was welcomed by Lebanese Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour and is scheduled to meet President Michel Suleiman, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Najib Mikati and other officials.

Iran and Lebanon enjoy cordial relations and have further expanded these ties in recent years.

The two sides have exchanged several delegations of high-ranking officials in the last two years.

Iranian and Lebanese officials have recently doubled efforts to further expand the bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the two nations.

The two countries signed a cluster of economic agreements during Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's landmark visit to Beirut in October 2010.
