The Iranian Secretary of Supreme National Security Council, Saeed Jalili visited Damascus on Tuesday after his visit to Lebanon, where he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Jalili discussed with the president the situation in the country, as he insisted on the government not to allow enemies to kill the Syrian people.

He insisted that the only way to resolve the issue lies in the Syrian democracy and respect for the Syrian people's right to vote. Jalili also mentioned Iran's readiness to provide humanitarian aid to the resistant Syrian people. President Assad marked that foreign countries support of terrorism by sending arms to Syria is not acceptable.

Assad stressed the determination of the Syrian government to meet the aspirations of the people through democratic means.

In a press conference at the Iranian embassy in Damascus Jalili said that Syrian people have been a support for the resistance in Lebanon and Palestine, and assured that Syria and Syrian people share the victory that the resistance achieved in May 2000 and July 2006 in south Lebanon and also in Gaza.

He added that what is happening now in Syria is all due to its support for the resistance, and this whole conspiracy is a kind of revenge for the glory that Syria was part of.

Jalili mentioned that Israel is Syria’s major enemy, and the United States have always been a great supporter for Israel which makes it impossible to believe that those countries and their allies are worried about Syrian peoples’ interest.
