A senior Iranian lawmaker, Alaeddin Boroujerdi says rumors about the murder of abducted Iranian pilgrims in Syria are psychological warfare.

Chairman of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said on Tuesday that western media release purposive news on Syria and their rumors are in line with the psychological warfare waged by them against Syria.

“Since the incident happened, Syria has formed a committee to investigate this issue, which is following the situation of hostages minute-by-minute,” Boroujerdi told reporters upon his return from a recent visit to Syria on Monday.

On August 4, 48 Iranians who were traveling on a bus from Damascus International Airport to the shrine of Hazrat Zeinab (AS) on the outskirts of the Syrian capital, Damascus, were abducted by insurgents.

“Escalating insecurity in Syria is created by the US and its allies and despite what [the western media] report, the [Syrian] government’s control over crisis zones such as Halab is increasing,” Boroujerdi said.

The Iranian lawmaker also referred to his recent meeting with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus saying that the Syrian president welcomes Iran's help in resolving the crisis in the Arab state.

“The Syrian president in this meeting said that due to the absolute trust of [Syria] in the Islamic Republic of Iran, any political measure taken by our country will be approved by Syria,” Boroujerdi added.
