Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi left Tehran for Kabul Tuesday afternoon to attend the fourth meeting of the two countries' joint economic cooperation commission.

During the commission meeting, the two sides are due to discuss Iran-Afghanistan cooperation in various political, security, border, consular, energy, transit and transportation, cultural, scientific, educational, customs and trade areas.

A 25-member delegation, comprising directors and experts from various economic and political ministries and organizations, had earlier left for Kabul to discuss cooperation grounds and draft several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) before Salehi's arrival.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-hit country.

Iran has built some roads, power transmission lines, and border stations, among the other infrastructure projects which would better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50 million annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts in the last 8 years.
