Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has condemned as ‘abhorrent’ the anti-Islam movie made in the US which insults Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Larijani said on Wednesday that the US government must be held accountable for such insults to Islamic sanctities and added, “The US politicians’ claims of supporting and respecting different cultures are … a blatant lie.”

He said that such blasphemous acts show that earlier slogans of US President Barack Obama that he respects Muslims are obvious lies.

Meanwhile, Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Mohammad Hosseini also condemned the film and described it as another instance of “the Zionists’ insults [to Islam] supported by the leaders of the US capitalist system.”

He said that the US used the notion of freedom of speech as a pretext to insult the Prophet of Islam (PBUH), adding the American government will suffer the consequences of the blasphemy, which has hurt the feelings of Muslims across the globe.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday that the blasphemous movie has been produced by anti-Islam Israeli-American Sam Bacile.

The report added that, Bacile, a real estate developer, has assumed responsibility for the film, which he said was made thanks to Jewish donations totaling USD 5 million.

The anti-Islam movie has sparked outrage in the Muslim world.
