Khabar Online:The chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has considered general consensus, national unity and a more open political atmosphere as being crucial in leading the Islamic Republic away from the current difficulties.

While marking the Sacred Defense Week, Rafsanjani described national unity and coherence, concentration on people's demands, full implementation of the constitution and resolving the international difficulties as possible means in leading the country away from the current difficulties, Khabar Online reported.
A veteran of the Islamic revolution stressed that Iran could achieve great progress if it follows Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's guidelines, develops proficient plans and forms a national unity government.
Former Iranian president attended a meeting with former Iranian soldiers who fought in 1980-1988 Iraqi-imposed war to discuss the reasons behind the beginning of the war and the years of sacred defense against Iraq invasion of the country.
While describing the reasons for the end of the war and accepting the Resolution, the senior Iranian cleric said that some analysts have distorted the facts over ending the imposed war.
During the final year of the war, the country's senior political official found that continuing the defense against Iraqi regime would have not benefited the country and the system and that they had to find a way to win the war.
Accepting the Resolution and ending the war with Iraq was a total victory for Iran, as former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was ousted in the years after, Rafsanjani also said.
