“With such plots, the Americans, seek to create conflict among regional states in order not to pay the cost of military intervention in another country and to improve their public image,” Spokesman of Iran Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Naqavi-Hosseini said in an interview with ISNA on Friday.
Referring to recent comments of Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the Turkish nation should be prepared for a possible war with Syria, Naqavi advised Ankara against “entering the American game.”
“Our enemies outside of the region are beating war drums and therefore Turkey must be careful not to become involved in such a conflict,” he added.
The Iranian lawmaker said Turkish politicians are too wise to enter a war which would only result in more regional conflict and military intervention.
“They (the Americans) see military intervention as the only solution to the Syrian problem and want to use Syria’s neighbors [to launch an attack],” he added
Turkey has beefed up military defenses on its border with Syria over the past weeks, stationing tanks, anti-aircraft missiles, and additional troops in the area.
Several Syrian soldiers were reportedly killed in an attack by Turkish forces on a military post near the border town of Tel Abyad on October 4.
Turkey’s attack followed a Syrian mortar strike that killed five people and wounded at least 10 others in the southeastern Turkish town of Akcakale in Sanliurfa Province a day earlier.
Turkish Prime Minister warned on October 9 that Turkey’s armed forces would not hesitate to strike back in response to any strike on Turkish soil.
