A senior Iranian lawmaker said that sanctions on Iran by the West cannot harm the country's resolve, adding that the Iranian nation is determined to resist against political and economic pressures.

The remarks were made in a meeting between Head of Iran-Germany Parliamentary Friendship Group Javad Heravi and Head of Germany-Iran parliamentary friendship group Bijan Djir-Sarai on Tuesday.

Heravi said that the Iranian nation will never yield to political and economic pressure and the sanctions imposed on Iran.

Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.

Tehran has dismissed the West's demand as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.

Djir-Sarai who is of Iranian descent said that he was pleased with Iran visit, hoping that exchange of visits by Iranian and German parliamentary officials and parliamentary friendship groups would work to bring the two nations closer.

The German parliamentary delegation arrived in Tehran Saturday night for a six-day visit despite pressure from pro-Israeli groups to cancel the trip.

The German parliamentary team is scheduled to hold talks with Iranian parliamentary officials, including Head of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Secretary of Iran's Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Ali Asghar Khaji, Head of the Parliament's Economy Commission Arsalan Fathi-Pour and representatives of religious minorities at the Iranian Parliament.

The delegation will leave Tehran on Thursday night.
