Iran’s House of Artists is scheduled to mount an exhibition of the recent calligraphic paintings of veteran Iranian artist Sadeq Tabrizi.

While attending the 19th International Exhibition of Press and News Agencies in Tehran, Tabrizi announced that a selection of his works, including paintings and calligraphic paintings, will be put on display in the exhibit in spring 2013.

Tabrizi, who is regarded as one of the leading artists of his generation, also said that he was negotiating with two art galleries in the Swiss city of Zurich and the German city of Frankfurt, to host an exhibition of his artworks.

The 74-year-old artist is credited as a maestro in the Saqqakhaneh School in calligraphic painting and as having taken Iranian folk art beyond its original context, producing a style of intermediary art mixing Western and Persian artistic conventions.

The term ‘Saqqakhaneh’ was first used to refer to a contemporary art movement in Iran established in 1962.

An art gallery in London also exhibited a selection of 40 works of Tabrizi in September. The exhibition ran for 20 days and was welcomed by the British media and people.

Tabrizi’s works have been displayed in several national and international galleries and exhibitions such as Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Henan Museum in China, the Abby Grey Foundation, and many other public and private exhibitions around the world.
