Iran’s national soccer team has moved 14 places up in the latest FIFA ranking, securing 44th place with a total of 611 points.

According to the latest FIFA data released on Wednesday, Iran remained in fourth place among Asian teams.

Japan is the best Asian soccer squad with 810 points. It is followed by South Korea with 728 points and Australia with 719 respectively.

Spain remains unchallenged at the top of the world ranking with 1,564 points. Germany sits in second place with 1,421 points.

Argentina has move into third place with 41,349 points edging Portugal down to fourth with 1,178.

On October 16, National soccer team of Iran defeated South Korea 1-0 in a home game in Asia's fourth round of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Captain Javad Nekounam scored the solo of the game played at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium with some 100,000 spectators in attendance.

He lashed the ball into the bottom corner after Ashkan Dejagah’s free kick from right was diverted back out towards the penalty spot by Andranik Teymourian.
