An Iranian lawmaker says the Israeli regime is trying to cover up its feeling of insecurity by constructing illegal settler units on the occupied Palestinian territories.

“The feeling of insecurity which has engulfed the Israeli society has faced this illegitimate regime with the serious risk of collapse and the heads of the fake Zionist regime [of Israel] are trying to fill the human void, which has occurred as a result of reverse immigration, by building 3,000 settler units and having the Jews from other areas to migrate to these territories,” Mehdi Davatgari said on Wednesday.

The Iranian lawmaker went on to say that the Israeli regime is under pressure from both the global community and the domestic public opinion, and this is why it resorts to any measure to set itself free from such pressures.

Davatgari also noted that Israel uses the construction of new settler unites as a tool to cause fear and panic among the residents of the occupied Palestinian territories.

“After repeated defeats of the occupier regime of al-Quds (Jerusalem) in the face of the resistance movement, the domestic and international public opinion has turned against this illegitimate regime and it is trying to cover up its failures by starting new construction [projects],” the lawmaker pointed out.

Despite international condemnations, the Israeli regime has announced new plans to construct 170 new settler units and 84 “guest rooms” in the West Bank.

Much of the international community considers the Israeli settlements illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in the 1967 war and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.
