Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast has condemned the Wednesday terrorist attack that left dozens of people dead in the northern Iraqi province of Salahuddin.

Mehmanparast offered condolences to the Iraqi people and government and expressed hope that Iraqi leaders will foil plots aimed at destabilizing the country.

The Iranian official warned about attempts made by the enemies of the Iraqi people to fuel sectarian and tribal conflicts in the country.

At least 42 people were killed and more than 70 others injured when an explosion hit a funeral ceremony at a mosque in the town of Tuz Khormato, some 175 kilometers (110 miles) north of Baghdad.

A series of bombings in and around the Iraqi capital on Tuesday killed at least 18 people.
