Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for the establishment of an Islamic bank, saying it is a way to improve economic conditions throughout the world.

One of the ways to improve the global economy is the establishment of an Islamic bank, Ahmadinejad said in a Saturday meeting with President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Ahmed Mohammed Ali al-Madani.

He added that the current global conditions do not allow for a change in the world's economic structure but the establishment of an Islamic bank can help bring about equitable economic conditions and development, and eradicate poverty in the world.

The Iranian president stated that current bank system in the world is based on capitalism and seeks to pour more money into the pockets of capitalists.

Ahmadinejad also called for the expansion of cooperation between the IDB and Iran.

Madani, for his part, praised Iran for its cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank, describing the Islamic Republic as a big supporter of the IDB.
