Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Sources Taner Yildiz says his country is satisfied with the unchanged level of gas trade with Iran.

“Iran successfully continues its performance on providing natural gas via pipeline. We are happy about the natural gas trade with Iran,” Yildiz said on Tuesday.

The minister stated that despite taking Iran to arbitration court over its gas price, the flow of the gas between the two countries has not been affected.

“We said we were not happy with the high gas price so we took Iran to international arbitration over the price paid for gas imports," he added.

Iran’s natural gas is of crucial importance to Turkey, as it constitutes one-third of the country's total natural gas imports. Turkey uses a significant portion of imported Iranian natural gas to generate electricity.

Iran, which owns the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia, is Turkey's second-biggest supplier after Moscow.

In addition to exporting gas to Turkey, Armenia, and Pakistan, the country is currently negotiating gas exports to Iraq.

Turkey also imports oil from Iran.
