An Iranian diplomat has lashed out at the six world powers for complicating issues related to Iran’s nuclear energy program by imposing sanctions and preventing the supply of 20-percent enriched uranium to the country.

Speaking at a ceremony in the French capital city, Paris, Iran’s Ambassador to France Ali Ahani said under pressure from the US, the P5+1 - permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany - have made two mistakes which have complicated Iran’s nuclear issue.

The first error by the P5+1 was “imposing economic penalties and placing embargo against Iran’s banking system in an attempt to paralyze Iranian economy and incite the Iranian nation to show reaction,” Ahani said.

He added that contrary to the basic human principles, the embargoes have made it difficult for Iranian people to find vital medicines and such hostile policies have revealed the real intentions of some Western countries but strengthened the Iranian nation’s determination to continue their remarkable breakthroughs and stand united.

According to Ahani, another mistake made by the P5+1 was forcing Iran to raise the level of uranium enrichment from 3.5 percent to 20 percent, after the group prevented the supply of 20-percent enriched uranium to Tehran Research Reactor, which produces radioisotopes for medical and agricultural purposes.

“By doing this, the P5+1 has made it more complicated to find a solution to the nuclear issue,” the diplomat said.

Iran decided to enrich uranium to the 20-percent level to supply fuel to Tehran Research Reactor after potential suppliers failed to provide the Islamic Republic with the required uranium.

On February 15, Iran placed the first indigenous fuel rods into the heart of the Tehran Research Reactor. The fuel rods were produced at the Isfahan nuclear facility and transferred to the Tehran Research Reactor under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors.
