Supreme Leader's Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underlined Iran's important role and position in the Muslim world, and said foreign colonialism is the main cause of problems in the Islamic world.

"Iran is the treasure of Islam, and the whole Muslim world and the Islamic civilization is indebted to Iran," Velayati said on Wednesday.

He blasted the western states for their enmity towards the Islamic countries, and said, "Foreign colonialism and domestic tyranny have been the root cause of the problems of Iran and the Muslim world in the last two centuries."

In relevant remarks in 2011, Velayati warned the world Muslims that enemies have hatched plots to achieve their neocolonialist goals through cultural invasion and propaganda.

Neocolonialism has invaded the Muslim countries with "cultural and propaganda" tools to keep its position in these states, and as a result Muslims are still under "the ominous shadow of colonialism", he said, addressing the fifth General Assembly meeting of the Union of Islamic Radios and TVs here in Tehran.

Velayati reiterated that the colonialist powers use hi-tech mass media to promote and achieve their goals.
