The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy says regional Muslim countries must work to ensure security in the Persian Gulf.

In a meeting with Commander of the Iraqi Navy Vice Admiral Ali Hussein Ali in Baghdad on Tuesday, Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi said Iran’s deterrence power was aimed at ensuring the security of the region.

The Iranian commander opposed the presence of the forces of foreign countries in the strategic Persian Gulf region.

“There is a good opportunity to realize collective security for regional countries,” Fadavi stated.

The Iranian commander also pointed to the role that ‘the very good relations between Iran and Iraq can have in maintaining security in the region.'

The navies of the IRGC and Iraq also signed an agreement to expand cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries on Tuesday.

The agreement calls for the expansion of naval cooperation between the two countries, including holding joint military exercises.

Fadavi further said the agreements made between Iran and Iraq could pave the way for further pacts.
