Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in a message to the Speaker of Afghan Wolesi Jirga, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, expressed his condolences over the death of Ibrahimi's father and brother in the recent suicide attack.

In the message on Monday, Larijani condemned the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, and described terrorist groups as a major threat to the security, tranquility and progress of the region.

"I am sure that these blind terrorist acts will not undermine the will and determination of the great nation of Afghanistan to confront those elements who threaten the country's tranquility and progress," the message said.

Larijani further voiced Iran's readiness for joint cooperation with Afghanistan to strengthen and consolidate durable security and stability in the region.

Last week, Wolesi Jirga Speaker lost his father and elder brother in a suicide attack that killed another four people.

The blast occurred during a buzkashi game (a traditional game) in the Imam Sahib District of Northern Kunduz province.

The suicide bomber on foot exploded his suicide belt as he came close to Ibrahimi's brother, father and four of their guards in the district centre.
