The chairman of Iran’s Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee says the flames of any act of military aggression against Syria will engulf Israel.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Saturday that despite the ongoing political and propaganda campaigns against Syria, the ground is not prepared for the US to attack the Arab country because any such war would spread to Israel.

He said the Zionist regime’s repeated defeats at the hands of the anti-Israeli resistance front have already exposed its “fragile security” and Tel Aviv “cannot tolerate such a test again.”

The Iranian lawmaker added that a large part of the campaign against Syria is psychological in nature as the enemies are trying to feed false information to countries that support militants in Syria and at the same time terrorize the Syrian people and officials.

Boroujerdi added that the US and its allies have failed in Syria despite mobilizing all their resources. “After two years, Syria has become the scene of a very humiliating defeat for the US and its allies in the region.”

US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said on April 17 that Washington is sending 200 troops to Jordan to help contain the violence in Syria, fueling speculations that the US is setting the stage for an intervention in the Arab country.

The planned deployment comes as the Pentagon has recently reviewed military options for the Arab country. Hagel has called military intervention in Syria "an option, but an option of last resort."

The crisis in Syria began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of army and security personnel, have been killed.

The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the militants fighting the Syrian government are foreign nationals.

In addition, several international human rights organizations have accused the militants of committing war crimes.
