Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon has warned against enemies’ schemes to sow religious discord among Muslims, urging the Islamic world to remain vigilant and united against such plots.

“The enemies of the Islamic Ummah have been targeting Islam, Muslims and Islamic sanctities with the poisonous arrows of conspiracy and division in a bid to create religious rifts within the Ummah,” Ghazanfar Roknabadi said in a Wednesday meeting with a group of Lebanese scholars and elite in Beirut.

He called on Muslims to remain on the watch for enemies’ divisive plots, and said that remaining united and avoiding divisions hold the key to victory against the plots.

A central plank of Iran’s foreign policy is “defending the rights of all Muslims and oppressed people across the world” as well as non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, Roknabadi stated.

Meanwhile, Head of the Hezbollah Political Council Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed, who was present at the meeting, said Islamic identity was threatened by certain foreign-backed fabricated currents that seek to tarnish the image of Islam.

He said the Takfiri current, for instance, was part of a plot hatched by the enemies of Islam and in line with the Israeli regime’s sinister objectives, targeting Muslims.

The remarks come as Takfiri militants are continuing their fighting against the Syrian government, carrying out terrorist activities in Syria.

The turmoil in Syria began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

The Syrian government says the chaos in the country is being orchestrated from outside.
