Iranian lawmakers have congratulated the country’s president-elect on his victory in the June 14 election, saying they are ready to fully cooperate with Hassan Rohani to help carry out his plans.

In a Monday statement signed by 225 parliamentarians, the MPs thanked the Iranian nation for their huge turnout in the election and congratulated them on Rohani’s win.

“A new chapter has opened to build the country based on rationality, knowledge and using the potential of all moderate political elements,” read the statement.

”We declare our readiness to cooperate with the president-elect in line with the promises he made to the people during the election [campaign],” the statement added.

On Sunday, Rohani and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani exchanged views on leading issues and problems that Iran is currently grappling with, including unemployment and inflation.

Rohani emerged victorious in Iran's 11th presidential election by winning 50.7 percent of the vote.

The Interior Ministry put the voter turnout at 72.7 percent.

On Saturday, Rohani’s jubilant fans packed the streets of Tehran and a number of other cities, cheering, chanting slogans in his support, and setting off fireworks to celebrate his victory.

Rohani currently represents Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in the Supreme National Security Council, and is a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He is also director of the Expediency Council's Center for Strategic Research.
