Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi said that a joint committee will be held in mid-August to discuss the situation of the Iranian expatriates living in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The situation of Iranian nationals living in the Persian Gulf Arab state will be discussed during the Iran-UAE Joint Consular Committee meeting, which is scheduled to be held after the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

On Sunday, Araqchi said a number of foreign nationals have been expelled from the UAE following a decision by the Emirati Interior Ministry to apply some changes to the Persian Gulf state’s population of foreign nationals.

The Iranian diplomat further described as inaccurate media reports about the expulsion of over 100 Iranians residing in the UAE, saying accurate information was not yet available in this regard.

Figures released in 2008 showed that some 500,000 Iranians were residing in the UAE and that thousands of Iranian companies were also working in the country.
