Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has appointed caretakers for the three ministries which had been left vacant after the Majlis did not grant a vote of confidence to the proposed nominees to head them

During his first official Cabinet meeting after the lawmakers’ confirmation vote, President Rouhani on Sunday appointed caretakers for the ministries of Education; Science, Research and Technology; and Sports and Youth.

The caretakers appointed to head the three ministries are Ali Asghar Fani, Jafar Tofiqi and Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, respectively.

Rouhani has three months to introduce to the Majlis new nominees for the three vacant Cabinet posts.

In separate decrees on Saturday Rouhani officially appointed his 15 Cabinet nominees who had been approved by legislators, expressing hope that they would successfully carry out their “legal duties and responsibilities” based on law, moderation and the moral charter of the administration to serve Islam and the Iranian nation.

On Thursday, Majlis wrapped up its debate on the credentials of Rouhani’s Cabinet picks after four days of deliberations, approving 15 of his 18 proposed ministers.
