Trade between Tehran and Baku has increased, an Iranian trade official said, adding that Iran’s non-oil exports to Azerbaijan reached $190 million in the first four months of the current Iranian year (started March 21).

“Iran exported $190 million worth of non-oil goods in the first four months of the current year,” Trade Attaché of the Iranian Embassy in Baku Faraj Shahidi said.

He said that Iran’s exports to Azerbaijan witnessed 7.38 percent growth compared with last year’s corresponding period.

“It is projected that the value of Iran’s exports to Azerbaijan will hit $600 million by the end of year,” Shahidi added.

He said that Glass, ceramic, tile, agriculture products, cement, different kinds of fruits and fruit juices, detergents, shoes and industrial as well as petrochemical products are main commodities exported from Iran to Azerbaijan.

Iran has recently enhanced efforts to boost political, economic and cultural ties and cooperation with the regional and neighboring countries, specially the Central Asian states.

In October, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad traveled to Baku to attend the 12th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization. The summit was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku.

The Iranian and Azeri presidents met on the sidelines of ECO Summit, where the two leaders underlined the need for rigid efforts to expand bilateral relations and widen mutual cooperation.
