Berri pointed to the efforts made by supporters of terrorism to spill over crisis into his country, and said, “The Lebanese resistance will never allow the security and tranquility of Lebanon to be jeopardized.”
The Lebanese parliament speaker reiterated that supporters of terrorism after their defeat in Syria will do their best to blow a strike at the axis of resistance in the region which includes Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
The Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, warned of the backup given by some countries to radical terrorist groups in the region, and said, “Helping terrorist and radical groups is a big strategic mistake which will impose many problems on the region in future” and will also backfire to the supporters of terrorism themselves.
Earlier this month, a senior aide to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani called for an immediate halt to foreign supports for terrorists in Syria, and cautioned that the Syrian crisis may spread to other regional countries and even Europe.
“What exists in Syria now is organized terrorism and if terrorism is not squashed in the country, this issue will spill over to regional countries and even to Europe,” Iran’s presidential advisor for cultural affairs Hessamoddin Ashena said in a meeting with Head of the Kazakh Parliament’s International, Defense and Security Affairs Committee Suolen Ashymbayev in Tehran on Monday.
He reiterated that Iran and Kazakhstan have common and logical concern about the Syrian crisis.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when sporadic pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of western and regional states.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle-East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.
Washington has remained indifferent to warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
