Iranian Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh called for the expansion of economic and industrial relations with the UK once the two countries learn more about each other’s capacities and potentials in industry, mining and trade sectors.

Expansion of economic and industrial cooperation between Iran and Britain should take place with the two sides' further familiarity with the industrial, mining and trade capacities and potentials of each other,” Nematzadeh said in a meeting with former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in Tehran on Wednesday.

He stressed that Iran is in pursuit of privatization and encouraging the private sector and foreign companies to invest in its industrial, mining and trade sectors.

Nematzadeh pointed to Iran’s good capacities and potentials in the industrial and mining sectors for foreign investment, and said, “Iran ranks 12 in the world in the field of mining and enjoys abundance of rich mineral reserves which will fully supply the needs of the steel, copper, aluminum, chrome, titanium, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals industries.”

Straw, for his part, pointed to the current level of Iran-UK trade transactions, and said, “The two countries’ private sectors can become active in this field.

The four-member British delegation, headed by former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, arrived in the Iranian capital on a three-day visit on Tuesday.
