Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani urged for global disarmament, describing destruction of atomic weapons throughout the world as Iran's principled policy.

Speaking in a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart Ekwe Ethuro in Tehran on Sunday, Larijani pointed to Iran’s strong opposition to the use of the weapons of mass destruction, and said, “In its nuclear program, the Islamic Republic of Iran is after utilizing the nuclear technology for various economic, therapeutic and peaceful purposes.”

On September 26th, 2013, during the 68th UN annual General Assembly, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani presented three proposals on nuclear disarmament, which were welcomed by the representative delegations of various countries as well as independent personalities and the activist NGOs. Then On December 5, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a nuclear disarmament resolution that includes proposals forwarded by President Rouhani as head of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). The resolution calls on nuclear-power states to make more efforts to scale down and ultimately eliminate all types of nuclear arms.

Larijani further underlined Iran's principled policy for expanding all-out ties and cooperation with Africa, and said, "Given the two countries' high potentials and wide capacities for economic and political cooperation and interaction, Iran and Kenya can start a new round of friendly relations, specially considering that both states are now ruled by the governments which have just ascended to power."

He also laid emphasis on the importance of parliamentary cooperation for the reinvigoration and consolidation of the two nations' ties in all the various fields, and stressed that exchange of parliamentary delegations and launching parliamentary friendship groups can play a remarkable role in bolstering the two countries' cooperation in different arenas.

The Kenyan Senate speaker, for his part, pointed to the trend of mutual cooperation between Iran and Kenya, and said, “Kenya wants expansion of its trade and economic cooperation with Iran, specially in areas of oil, mining and agricultural products.”
