Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani expressed pleasure that his Iraqi counterpart Ossama al- Nujaifi has managed to dodge a recent assassination attempt, and called terrorism as the main obstacle to regional peace and security.

In a message on Wednesday, Larijani condemned terrorist measures and the assassination attempt on lives of his Iraqi counterpart and his brother, and said campaign against terrorism needs regional cooperation.

He said undoubtedly, terrorism is a serious threat to security, calm and progress of the entire regional nations, and added that campaign against terrorism requires collective cooperation at regional level.

Al-Nujaifi narrowly escaped an attack in his hometown on Monday.

A convoy carrying the speaker was hit by a roadside bomb in the main Northern city of Mosul.

Nujaifi escaped unharmed, but one of bodyguards was wounded, sources said.

Mosul and surrounding Nineveh province, where Nujaifi's brother Atheel is governor, is one of Iraq's most violent areas.
