Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Algerian Parliament Speaker Mohamed Al-Arabi Walad Khalifa thanked Algeria for its principled stances in support of Iran's inalienable nuclear rights.

"The Algeria's role is crucial for NAM," Zarif said during the meeting with the Algerian parliament speaker late Wednesday.

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to Algeria's constructive role in defending the Iran's legitimate rights in making use of peaceful nuclear technology, and said, "The two countries are moving the path of moderation and have common views in the international arena."

Zarif referred to the heinous phenomenon of extremism in different parts of the world, and said, "Iran is ready to cooperate with the world's independent states in fighting extremism and by relying on moderation."

The Iranian foreign minister pointed to Iran's constructive role in settling the Syrian crisis, and said, "We appreciate Algeria's non-interference stance in the internal affairs of other countries and we believe that this viewpoint can be the basis for Iran's active presence in resolving the Syrian crisis."

In recent years, Iran has sought hard to boost ties and cooperation with Africa.

Iran is an observing member of the African Union (AU) and has shown an active presence in previous AU summit meetings.
