A delegation comprising senior Iranian parliamentary officials is slated to visit Oman and Kuwait in coming days to discuss expansion of ties and cooperation with officials of the two Persian Gulf littoral states.

The visits by the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission to Oman and Kuwait were approved in the commission's meeting on Sunday," Commission Rapporteur Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Sunday.

He underlined that the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission is determined to pursue an active parliamentary diplomacy and foreign visits are meant to serve the same purpose.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underlined that they attach great importance to the consolidation of Tehran's relations with the Middle-East countries, specially with the Persian Gulf littoral states, in order to protect and promote peace and security in the region.

Oman's Agriculture Minister Fuad bin Jafar bin Muhammad al-Sajwani is in Tehran now to sign a number of cooperation agreements with Iranian officials.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani traveled to Masqat in March to confer with senior Omani officials on the latest regional and international developments as well as new ways to expand the ties between the two Persian Gulf nations.

The Iranian president underlined that Iran has always had friendly relations with Oman, adding that Tehran is currently more determined to further strengthen bilateral ties with Masqat.

He further referred to the agreements signed during Sultan Qaboos’ visit to Tehran, and said that during his two-day visit he was to follow up the implementation process of the previous agreements.

Iran and Kuwait have sought to expand bilateral ties through exchanging several high-ranking delegations in the last few years.
