Head of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Monday hailed unity among Sunni and Shia in Iran.

He made the remarks in a meeting with some of the current and former lawmakers from the Sunni majority province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

 

He reiterated that consolidating of unity among followers of various Islamic sects including Sunni and Shia is a necessity.

 

The southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan has good potentials for progress and the government should have strategic programs for utilizing the regionˈs capacities.

 

Sistan and Baluchestan Province is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is in the southeast of the country, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan and its capital is Zahedan.

 

The province is the largest in Iran, with an area of 181,785 km and a population of 2.4 million.
