"The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the decision taken by Iraq's national assembly based on the country's constitution and the Iraqi government with Mr. Haider al-Abadi as its prime minister," Amir Abdollahian said Monday night.
Stressing the necessity for respecting Iraq's independence, sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity, he said, "Now it's time for the regional states to help the Iraqi government to uproot terrorism."
Amir Abdollahian underlined that the Iraqi people and political and religious leaders proved that they won’t allow regional enemies, the remnants of the Baath party and the Takfiri terrorists to endanger the security of Iraq and the region.
Iraq's parliament approved a new government on Monday with Sunni and Kurdish deputy prime ministers, as it seeks to tackle the terrorist Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants.
Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi was asked to form a government after former Prime Minister Nouri Maliki withdrew his bid for a third term.
Abadi has pledged to fill the posts of interior and defense minister within a week.
Adel Abdul Mahdi from the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq was appointed oil minister, while former PM Ibrahim Jaafari was named foreign minister.
Maliki, another former prime minister, Ayad Allawi, and former parliamentary speaker Osama al-Nujaifi, were given the ceremonial positions of vice presidents.
