In a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Tuesday evening, President Rouhani underscored that as long as the Iranian nation’s rights are not damaged, Tehran is prepared for agreement.
He also expressed hope that UN secretary-general shoulders the duties of preparing the ground for achieving a win-win agreement.
Today’s world is faced with many problems, namely terrorism, violence, extremism and environmental threats, President Rouhani added.
He also referred to the hegemony imposed by the world powers as the biggest problem facing the world.
Criticizing certain countries’ double standards, President Rouhani noted: "When some countries find terrorists’ actions in their interest, choose silence vis-à-vis killing of humans, and when find these actions damaging to themselves, start to retaliate. However, great powers today cannot hide truths from nations.”
The UN chief, for his part, praised Iran’s interaction with IAEA and its active participation in negotiations with the P5+1.
Ban also underscored that unfortunately, common people have lost trust in the international community’s capability in tackling terrorism.
"We seek more serious presence, strategic and constructive role on the part of Iran in this regard,” he added.
President Rouhani arrived in New York on Monday to attend the 69th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The session opens on September 25 and will continue by October 1. On September 25, President Rouhani is due to address the meeting.
