Iranian FM Planning to Visit Spain, China Next Week

Politics - Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif plans to leave Tehran for Madrid next week to discuss ties and cooperation.

"The Iranian foreign minister is slated to depart for Madrid next week on expansion of bilateral ties, and at the end of the same week he will travel to China to attend a conference on Afghanistan," Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham said in her weekly press conference.

Iran and Spain have enjoyed amicable ties for centuries based on mutual understanding.

"In his trip to China, Zarif is to attend the fourth regional confernce on Afghanistan. The top Iranian diplomat will also have bilateral meetings with the participants in the conference to discuss ways to restore security to Afghanistan," she further added.

Afkham underlined restoring peace and security to Afghanistan is of vital importance to Iran as a neighboring country.

Iran is one of the most important donors to Afghanistan, which has kept its promises to help to the reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.

Iran has built several roads, power transmission lines, border stations and many other infrastructure projects to better link the two nations.

Iran has also contributed more than $50mln annually to Afghan anti-narcotics efforts during the last five years.
