Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani in a meeting with Chairman of the Italian Senate's Foreign Policy Commission Pier Ferdinando Casini stressed Tehran's continued rigid efforts in war on terrorism, and called Iran as the most stable country in the region.

During the meeting in Rome on Thursday, Larijani viewed Iran as the most stable country in the region, and said Tehran has not only managed to confront evil incidents relating to Takfiri and Salafi terrorists but also assisted its neighboring countries to that end.

As to the Syrian crisis, he believed it could be solved only through direct voting of people because any other non-democratic plan could lead to further spread of violence and terrorism.

Larijani said Iran welcomes interaction and cooperation with all world countries but never yields to oppression.

The Italian senator, for his part, highlighted Iran's key role in maintaining peace and stability in the region, and said the crisis in Syria could be settled only through diplomacy and dialogue.

He pointed to the special importance Italy attaches to ties with Iran, and said he hoped for better mutual relations.

In relevant remarks on Wednesday, Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi in a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in Muscat appreciated Tehran for its key role in fighting terrorism and establishing security and peace in the region.

"Iran's constructive role in the restoration of stability and security to the region is known to all countries," the Omani foreign minister said during the meeting.

He underlined that terrorist and extremist groups pose a serious threat to all the regional countries, and said, "Vigilance, cooperation and consultation among the regional countries is the only way to combat terrorism and extremism."
