A senior Iranian official called on the world Muslims, Shiites and Sunnis, to grow more united against the divisive plots hatched by the enemies to wreak havoc on them.

"Muslim nations are currently facing two parallel dangers of the Zionist regime (of Israel) and Takfiri movements which are in fact two sides of the same coin," said Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Saturday.

“Confrontation with these two dangers, particularly with extremist movements of ISIL both in Iraq and Syria and the Zionist regime in occupied Palestine as well as measures to Judaize the occupied Palestinian territories requires unity and vigilance on the part of the Muslim Ummah,” Amir Abdollahian added.

The Iranian official warned that extremist and Takfiri movements have targeted the unity of Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

He emphasized that scholars, academicians and writers play a leading role in shedding light on the dimensions of threats the Muslim world is currently faced with.

Late in October, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed that strengthening unity among the Muslim states is the prioritized policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

"Islamic unity which is the basic slogan of the Islamic Republic means that the Islamic Ummah shouldn’t practice hostility towards each other, but should support each other in (dealing with) important global issues," Ayatollah Khamenei said.

He described unity and brotherhood among Muslims as one of the pillars of Islam, and emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran would never compromise this issue.
