Iran's thermal and hydroelectric power plants generated 224,795 Gigawatt-Hours (GWh) of electricity since the start of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21), the Energy Ministry announced.

212,784 GWh of that amount of electricity was generated by thermo power plants and 12,108 GWh of it was generated by hydroelectric plants.

The production of the Iranian thermo generators showed 6.01% increase and the hydro generators in Iran produced 0.02% more than the previous year.

Iran has constructed power plants twice as many as the average number of power plants constructed in the world during the past decade.

The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by 7 percent annually during the past 10 years.

Iran currently swaps power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan (including Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic), Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1bln in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
