Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the visiting Chinese foreign minister, Wang Yi, met in Tehran on Monday to explore ways to deepen bilateral relations between Tehran and Beijing.

The meeting between Larijani and Yi was held at parliament's building.

In their meeting, Larijani and Yi also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and the world.

The Chinese minister had earlier met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

During the meeting on Sunday, President Rouhani highlighted the significant role China can play to speed up the process of securing a final nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

“In the current conditions, the final agreement will be reached in a short time if the other side has the sufficient political will, and China’s effective presence shortens that time,” Rouhani said in the meeting.

China is a member of the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) with which Iran is negotiating to hammer out a long-awaited agreement on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

The Chinese official arrived in Tehran on Monday at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif to meet with high-ranking Iranian officials in a bid to strengthen ties between the two Asian countries.
