European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini referred to the ongoing visit of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Yukiya Amano to Tehran as a “very important” move amid nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers in Vienna, Austria.

As the talks over Tehran's nuclear energy program are underway in Vienna, Amano arrived in Tehran on Wednesday night and is scheduled to meet with Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani, later today to discuss key issues regarding a long-awaited deal between the two sides.

“Amano’s trip to Tehran is very important,” Mogherini told reporters upon her arrival in Palais Coburg in Vienna.

She further referred to the ongoing talks between the negotiating teams from Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany), saying, “We are moving forward. We are not there yet but we are moving forward. It's going rather well."

"Today we will have the chance of checking some political issues that are still open,” she added, referring to the meetings she will have today with other officials in the talks, especially Iran’s Foreign Minister and Chief Nuclear Negotiator Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran and the sextet are in talks to hammer out a lasting agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's civilian nuclear program.

The two sides on Tuesday extended the nuclear negotiations for seven days after the June 30 deadline expired.
