Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) managed to make great strides in settling the remaining issues after a UN nuclear agency delegation visited Tehran, spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said.

"By achieving principled consensus about the table of subjects and time frame for mutual cooperation, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency took a major step towards settlement of the remaining issues," Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Monday night, after a 5-strong IAEA delegation wrapped up its one-day visit to Tehran.

The visit came a few days after IAEA chief Yukiya Amano's trip to Iran.

Kamalvandi said the visit was a sign of "serious determination" of Iran and the UN nuclear watchdog to effectively strengthen cooperation.

He also hailed Monday's joint expert meetings with the IAEA delegation as "constructive and straightforward" and with mutual understanding.

"The agreement reached after the talks during the agency delegation's visit to our country, which is squarely within the framework of national interests and security considerations in compliance with the (Iranian) establishment's red lines, will facilitate technical interaction between Iran and the agency," Kamalvandi added.

He also voiced Iran's preparedness to continue cooperating with the IAEA within the framework of the agency's general regulations.

Last week, Amano said the purpose of his visit to Iran "was to advance work towards the resolution of all outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear program, including clarification of possible military dimensions."
