Russia's envoy says Iran draft resolution submitted to UN Security Council

Politics - Russia has officially submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the outcome of nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers.

"The document was today officially submitted to the UNSC," Vitaly Churkin, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, said Wednesday, expressing hope that the UN body could "unanimously" adopt the resolution.

After 18 days of marathon talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna, Iran and the P5+1 group of countries - the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany - reached a conclusion on July 14 on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which will put certain limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Earlier in the day, sources in the United States said that Washington will circulate the draft resolution on Iran nuclear program in a meeting of the Security Council.

The Security Council will have seven to 10 days to endorse the 159-page text of the JCPOA to make it an official document.
