Iran has dismissed unfounded claims by the Arab League about the Islamic Republic’s interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi-Ansari said Iran has cordial relations with most Arab countries based on mutual respect and common interests.

The Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers claimed in its recent meeting that Iran is interfering in the internal affairs of Arab states, which was a “grave threat” to peace and security.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry official slammed the Arab League’s statement on Iran, saying it was spiteful, nonconstructive and incorrect.

He added that Iran plays an active, responsible and stabilizing role in regional developments and will continue with its constructive role in efforts made to stem crises and tensions through interaction with neighbors and the international community, “despite unfriendly and spiteful stances by some countries.”

“Unfortunately, some countries, which have been under fire as main suspects in supporting extremism and terrorism, are trying to play blame game on others and proceed with the policy of depicting Iran as a threat,” the Iranian official stated.

Jaberi-Ansari called for regional governments to pay more attention to main issues of the region, particularly the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

He also urged regional countries to realize the importance of restoring the Palestinian people’s rights and countering terrorism.
