Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the importance of Economy of Resistance and Islamic culture as two urgent priorities for Iran's new parliament.

In a message to the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian parliament which was read to audience on Saturday, the Ayatollah also stressed the need for dwelling on factional interests and preferring personal interests over that of the nation and said the revolutionary and legal commitments obliged the parliamentarians to make the legislative body as a solid stronghold against the outrageous tricks and excessive demands of the hegemonic powers thus making it a firm and brilliant source of reliance for the faithful and revolutionary people of Iran.

He also voiced congratulations to the nation over the coincidence of the opening of the 10th parliament with the auspicious times of Shaban month which is a period of spirituality, humbleness and great religious occasions and thanked the dear Iranian nation for keeping the wheel of legislation turning in the country through their epic participation in the elections.

Noting that the stormy conditions both in region and the world together with the adventurist policies pursued by international hegemonic powers and their apprentices is landing the Islamic Iran in a more complicated situation than before, Ayatollah Khamenei said coping with such events calls for vigiliance, firm will and bright initiatves by all officials.

The Supreme Leader referred to materialization of the Economy of Resistance with all of its requirements and making frank efforts to spread and deepen the priniciple of Islamic culture as two urgent priorities.

He further said there were other domains of urgent priorities as well like the issues pertaining to the national power, sustaining security which would guarantee social justice, independence and progress of the country.

Ayatollah Khamenei recommended the parliamentarians to rely on the will of the Almighty and paid homage to the spirit of the late Founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini.

The new round of Iran’s parliament started work here on Saturday with a special ceremony attended by a number of ranking officials.

President Hassan Rouhani and his deputies as well as cabinet members, Expediency Chief Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Larijani, the Secretary of the Guardians Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati and a number of foreign ambassadors residing in Tehran were invited to the parliament on the occasion.

Over 300 media and press reporters from in and outside the country covered the event.
