Iranian Communication and Information Technology Minister Mahmoud Vaezi, who chairs joint Iran-Azerbaijan economic commission, conferred with Azerbaijan Republic President Ilham Aliyev on expansion of bilateral ties.

In the meeting on Friday, Aliyev referred to his meetings with Iranian top ranking officials during recent trip to Tehran and underlined pursuing and execution of agreements inked during the trip.

He also congratulated Iranian people and government on Norouz, which marks beginning of traditional Iranian new year.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Aliyev underlined the importance of Rasht-Astara railway project and expressed satisfaction with progress in the project which connects the two states’ railways.

He also expressed consent over growing trade exchanges and stressed development of bilateral ties to multilateral cooperation with regional countries.

Aliyev pointed to his recent trip to Europe and quoted the European officials as highlighting the importance of safeguarding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The European countries underscored their commitment to execution of nuclear deal, the Azeri president quoted his European hosts as saying.

During the meeting, Iranian minister for his part conveyed the congratulation message of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Aliyev on Norouz celebration.

He also briefed the Azeri president with a report on the status of Astara-Astara and Rasht-Astara railways.

Vaezi also appreciated facilitation of banking relations between the two countries.

He voiced hope for holding trilateral meeting with Russia in Tehran in the next six months.

Referring to initiative of Iran, Russia and Turkey for establishment of peace in Syria, the minister voiced hope for elimination of terrorist elements in Iraq and Syria in the near future.

Vaezi arrived in Baku on Thursday for an official two-day visit and met his Azeri counterpart Shahin Mustafayev and a number of Azeri officials.
