Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf issued a statement on Sunday congratulating President Hassan Rouhani on his re-election to the post.

Qalibaf, one of the presidential candidates who quitted the race in favor of Ebrahim Raeisi few days left to the Election Day, said that the high turnout of people once again displayed the legitimacy and competence of the Islamic Republic system.

Noting that Friday election was held soundly and with no security flow, Tehran mayor congratulated the Iranian nation, the Supreme Leader and the president-elect over this “epic participation”.

With announcing the results, election competitions came to the last station, Qalibaf said.

However, he noted that both the winner of the election and his critics have rights and duties whose observation guarantees the survival of religious democracy.

With the election campaigns over, now it's the time to respond to the people’s demands, Qalibaf said, adding that in order to prevent dictatorship in governing the country, the critics have to pursue the legitimate demands of the nation within the legal frameworks.

“We are committed to pursue the promises by the government during the presidential campaigns until their implementation.”
