Iran's President Hassan Rouhani in a message on Monday said he and his cabinet will support the victims of the recent massive earthquake in western Iran through mobilizing all in the government's capacity.

'The government will stay by all the people affected by the earthquake by mobilizing all in its capacity both on national and local levels,' President Rouhani said in his message, sympathizing with the victims and bereaved families affected by Sunday evening quake measured at 7.3 quake on Richter scale, with tremors felt by people in several Iranian provinces.

'The large-scale quake, hitting massive parts of Iranian western provinces, and especially in Kermanshah Province, has caused deaths and injuries of many of our fellow countrymen,' he said.

'This is a great source of misery,' the president added.

President Rouhani also said that from the early hours after the incident, he has been in contact with the provincial officials, while his interior minister has issued necessary orders concerning ramping up the relief operations in the quake-hit areas.

'It is necessary for all within the country's relief apparatus, both in the affected and nearby provinces, to cooperate and do all within their capacity to help, accommodate and shelter people in the disaster areas,' he said.

The 7.3-magnitude earthquake rocked west of Iran and areas in eastern Iraq on Sunday night killing at least 328, and wounding 3950.

The quake, with its epicenter at a depth 11 km, occurred at 21:05 local time (17:35 GMT).
