Iranian President Hassan Rouhani left Tehran for Russia on Wednesday to participate in tripartite summit meeting slated to be held today in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

The visit to Russia is upon an invitation by Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Parviz Esmaeili, the head of the Department for Communications and Information Dissemination of the Presidential Office on his Twitter account.

Negotiations are expected to focus on regional issues including the Syrian crisis and terrorism.

During the one-day stay in Russia, President Rouhani will also have bilateral talks with his Russian and Turkish counterparts.
